Safety verdict
Is Nexus Mods safe?
Established or official, with no known indicators.
An established, official PC mod repository. The site itself is legitimate, but any downloaded mod file still needs basic caution.
In short: Nexus Mods is safe to use. This is a document-based verdict built from recorded scam patterns and known exploitation — not a live scan of a specific page or download. Always verify the source yourself before downloading or entering an account.
What this is
A long-running mod-hosting site for PC games, with an official domain and moderation. It is a primary source for mods rather than a random file host.
Official source: nexusmods.com
Known scam patterns
- Look-alike domains that copy the Nexus Mods name to serve malware
- Links to 'Nexus Mods' downloads shared in Discord DMs that point elsewhere
Required protections
- Download only from the real nexusmods.com domain
- Scan downloaded files before running them
- Check a mod's comments and file size for anything unexpected
What to do if you are already affected
If a mod you installed turned out to be malicious, disconnect the affected device from the network, change passwords for any account you signed into afterward from a clean device, and run a reputable malware scan.
How we judge
Verdicts come from documented scam patterns, official sources and public incident reporting — never from review sentiment or affiliate relationships. A verdict can change as new information emerges, and is re-dated whenever it does.
